Our North Star

Our North Star is this: Leaders have a profound responsibility to create learning and work environments where people experience a genuine sense of safety and belonging. When the needs of the human nervous system are understood and honored, people are able to access the brain's capacity for learning, growth, collaboration, and wise decision-making. Only then can we do our most nimble thinking and adapt to the evolving needs of students, families, and communities. Only then can we create the conditions in which neurodiverse, marginalized, and all children, and the adults who support them, can thrive together. 

Achieving this requires more than awareness. It requires proficiency in the practices needed to help people return to states that support learning and connection. That understanding and skill level must be embedded into every element of the operating system, shaping both how it functions and how people experience it.

A modern operating system also reflects a deep appreciation for the power and importance of human connection and the quality of interpersonal relationships. These are not peripheral to learning and organizational effectiveness; they are foundational and must be intentionally supported by the operating system.

We bring this lens to system redesign, exploring how communities can leverage the full range of resources within and around them while harnessing powerful technologies in ways that reflect their values and aspirations.

It is our belief that innovative instructional programs and differentiated student supports can only achieve their full potential within an operating system intentionally designed with these considerations at the core.

It is also the kind of operating system that makes it possible for learning to extend beyond the walls of the school and into the community.

Our understanding of the human nervous system’s importance to learning and connection has been profoundly influenced by Dr. Niki Elliott, Director of the University of San Diego’s Center for Embodied Equity and Neurodiversity, and the Heart-Centered Connections curriculum, which brings together and translates relevant scientific evidence into practice.  The Accelerator builds on Dr. Elliott’s work by integrating the understanding and mind-body practices developed through Heart-Centered Connections into its approach to modernizing operating systems and helping communities achieve meaningful, sustainable, student-centered transformation.
