K-12 Operating System Health Survey

The survey results provide communities a shared view of how stakeholders experience the organizational conditions that support their work. They reveal where perspectives align, where they differ, and where greater clarity, coordination, and coherence may be needed.  The broader the participation across stakeholder groups, the richer and more useful that shared view becomes.

We believe that shared insight will help leaders and communities get on the same page, better understand what enables or limits their collective efforts, and focus on strengthening the operating system. Doing so matters because the operating system underpins a school district’s ability to achieve its mission and realize its vision. 

The inaugural administration also marks the beginning of a long-term learning effort to help communities build the capability to function as more coordinated and coherent operating systems, enabling them to more consistently achieve the outcomes they aspire to for every student.

 Participation provides shared insight that can help communities deepen their understanding of stakeholder experiences and focus conversations on where greater alignment, coordination, and coherence may strengthen their work. It also creates the opportunity to connect with other communities on the same journey, offering the potential for shared learning, fresh perspectives, and encouragement as the work advances. 

Participating organizations will receive:

• Advance  access to national findings to support leadership conversations and place local experiences in a broader K–12 context.

• Aggregate findings across stakeholder groups to illuminate where perspectives align, differ, or suggest opportunities for deeper inquiry.

• Learning conversations and webinars focused on what the findings may mean for leadership, organizational improvement, and operating system stewardship.

• Opportunities to inform future learning and research as the survey and supporting evidence base develop.
